In the fall of 2008 we began searching for some affordable miniature cattle that could be used to raise our own home grown beef.  While the miniature Hereford and Lowlines are wonderful animals, at current market prices we could not afford to butcher a steer if we had so much invested in its parents.  We were able to locate some very nice cross bred miniatures. I think that they will suit our needs nicely.  We now have a bull and six cows and heifers.

This little guy was born on 4/16/2010 and is out of June Bug and sired by Cleburne. He is all that we could have hoped for. He is offered  for sale for $750 for a short time. If he doesn't sell, he will become our first mini-beef.

Carla delivered this pretty little girl on 12/1/2009.

This is Cleburne, the bull. He was sired by a Lowline bull and out of a zebu cow.

This is Annabelle. She was sired by a Lowline bull and is out of a very small regular red Angus cow.

The cows clean up any scratch or feed that the chickens have left behind when we move the pens each day.  They also leave piles around the pens that the chickens scratch through as the pens are moved over them.

This is JuneBug. She was sired by a miniature Zebu bull and is out of a small Pineywoods cow.

Carla on the left, and Darla on the right are a cow / calf pair that we bought in Oklahoma. They are a great addition to our little herd. Carla is bred to a zebu bull for a fall calf. I am hoping for a heifer that looks a lot like her.
